“Don’t leave this bittersweet,” sings Taylor-Rae in her new song. “Bittersweet” finds the singer-songwriter juggling the juxtaposition of the bitter and sweet memories once a relationship has died out. “Tell me you hate me so I hate you more / A good goodbye is the last thing I need,” she adds.
Co-written with David Evans, Aaron Pollock, and Lydia Sutherland, “Bittersweet” perfectly showcases Taylor-Rae’s shiny vocals. Even as she pours her heart out in ounces of pain, there’s a strength she uncovers in remembering the past. “If you’re leaving, then leave me,” she stresses over a glossy swirl of drums and guitar. She gathers both the good and bad memories like lace, twisting it into a gloriously earnest fabric.
“Bittersweet” kicks off an exciting year for Taylor-Rae. The anthem comes on the heels of such 2024 singles “Drunk Plans” and “Sendin’ Myself to Church.”
