It’s a shame Maddie & Tae aren’t bigger stars than they are. Their songwriting is as good and polished as always, evidenced with their new song. “Kissing Cowboys” finds the duo heading gout to the local watering hole to find their own John Wayne. “Paint your lips then you shoot one back / If you break his heart, do it on his tab,” the duo sings.

Wearing a cheeky smile and rose-colored lipsitck, Maddie & Rae let it all hang out over handclaps and a twangy gallop. “There just might be a John Wayne hidin’ in the here and now boys / So, keep on kissing cowboys,” they concluded in the chorus. The heartbreakers do a two-step across the dance floor, shaking off the guilt and living every moment lie it’s their last.

In a press statement, Tae takes a moment to reflect, saying, “The thing about being a little bit older is you realize how many things you wish someone had told you. All the stuff you worried about, the pressure to be somebody else’s idea – when you really should be out there, well, ‘kissing cowboys.’”
