When Jade Bird sings, you know immediately who it is. A reedy timbre is unmistakable in whatever melody it is delivered. With “Nobody,” the singer-songwriter delights with melodramatics that ebb and flow in all the appropriate places. As a relationship burns down from both ends, Bird clutches tighter onto the once-vibrant love. “Don’t want to have to call my mother and tell her we can’t see past all our problems,” she sings.

Drums and guitars thrash around in a bed of grit and charm. Jade Bird’s voice remains torn in half as she pushes forward into the unknown. “I never saw you living without me,” she admits. Those words pierce the skin and stay in the listener’s brain. There’s no shaking off the uncertainty and the pain and the brittle cold.

“Knowing your relationship is in tatters but being unable to admit defeat because you feel that there’s no one who is better than that person, despite it being so bad,” Bird shares in a press statement.
