Joey Myron‘s “Love You or Leave You” possesses one of the most infectious hooks of the year. Jangly and sloshed, the melody bops along with an easy, breezy attitude. “Love you, leave you, lead you on / Even though I know it’s wrong,” Myron mulls over. A choir of voices come to his aid, adding a hillbilly hoedown aspect to the track.
“Mississippi, drinking whiskey / Even though I know it’s wrong,” he continues. He downs another whiskey before calling the bartender over to order yet another. That’s just the way things go sometimes. “This song is an emotional rollercoaster of someone not being able to make a decision in fully embracing love or leaving a serious relationship,” Myron says in a press statement. “‘It’s hard to leave when you’re family,’ rings true especially when you’re drowning yourself in liquor.”
“It’s a perfect song to blast windows down by yourself on a summer night or around a bonfire with friends,” he adds. “The production of cascading guitars, huge gang vocals, banjos, and booming drums conveys a combination of frustration and euphoria everyone can relate to.”
