Country musician Adam Doleac gets super nostalgic on his new track “Playin Catch”. It was written alongside Andy Skib (Hunter Hayes, Mickey Guyton) and Derrick Southerland (Ingrid Andress).

Doleac shared on the track exclusively with Charted: “Some songs I think you can only write after becoming a parent, and I think that “Playin’ Catch” is one of those songs for me. My dad was the first, and my favorite coach I ever had. I wrote this song for him, but it’s also for all the baseball dads (and moms) that came home from work, and went straight to the backyard or the baseball field. The ones that might have been tired, but were never too tired to play catch up with their kids. It wasn’t until I had my own that I fully understood how different it must have felt for him. I was thinking about a fastball, but he was thinking how fast time flies. He was catchin’ up, and I was just playin’ catch.

The guitar-driven single finds Doleac reflecting on his childhood. In the opening verse he sings, “I go out on the front porch/round four-forty-five/ this glove on my left hand/baseball in my right/ he pull down the driveway/ still in his work clothes/ what it mean to walk inside/ just say ‘buddy let’s go’/ and I thought we were just playin’ catch.”

The first verse evokes such a beautiful emotion of a bond between father and son with its vivid imagery.

In the chorus he sings, “He was playin’ catch out in the backyard/ tryin’ to catch it for awhile/ just to catch what I’ve been doin’/ because he’d been working all the time/ I was thinking about a fastball/ he was thinking how fast time flies/ but all that went right over my head / he was catchin’ up and I was just playin catch.”

This track is a reminder to all the parental figures out there to really cherish the time with your kids because in the blink of an eye, they are all grown up with kids of their own. Family is absolutely everything.
