“I’m growing, so you need to grow up,” Rachel Lorin snaps her jaws in her new song. “Use Me” is a sun-scorched kiss-off for those drunken late-night texts from an ex. The melody is syrupy sweet, deceptively seductive even, but Lorin makes it crystal clear that she’s drawing some lines in the sand. “Speak now, or forever hold your peace,” she sings after calling out her ex for being “cold lately.”

The quest for answers is momentary. Once the lyrics fall out, the time is up. Time to move on. “Don’t call me because you’re lonely / Need somebody when you just want my body,” she sings. Lorin’s voice floats over the melody with a drip-drop sexiness, as a way to taunt her ex and remind him that she is no longer his. The crunch in the production is addicting, as her vocals filter through static. It’s perfect for those long and hot summer evenings.

“It is now May, y’all. May all the bad energy stay the hell away from me,” she writes on Instagram. In adding a photo dump, she embraces the moment to preserve her sanity and ban all the negative energy that’s been haunting her this year. Two years in the making, “Use Me” is one of the year’s must-listen new tracks.
