Nearly a decade ago, Lera Lynn‘s “A Church in Ruins” was featured on the popular TV show True Detective. A siren song, her new in-studio performance will crawl underneath your skin. “This will never grow old,” she sings. “Lost in the ether…” Her voice stuns, equally haunting now as it was then. She’s wiser now, able to infuse the song with newfound enlightenment.

“Darkness for cover, church in ruin / There’s nothing left to feel,” she coos. “Goodbye lover, this is your doing, a heart against the wheel.” The arrangement is perfectly tortured, as though she’s straining in her confession. In a live setting, Lynn has never sounded so pure, scattered like a million orbs in flight. She electrifies the listener with a sharp vocal that doesn’t let go.

“A Church in Ruins” (revisited) serves as the backbone to her new EP, True Sessions.
