“When I am through, I’ll be over you,” sings Will Payne Harrison. Heartache wrecked his life so badly, he just had to write about it. His new song “High as Willie” jangles with a vintage country & western sheen, with Harrison’s voice reedy as tumbleweed scattering in the wind. The pain of heartache sends shockwaves through his system, evident in his vocal tricks and plainspoken ways.

Harrison initially put out a version of the song nearly a decade ago. With a freshly-produced version, he eyes the heartache that rippled throughout his life. “I’m gonna smoke like a train,” he sings. “I’m gettin’ as high as Willie / I’m gonna curse your name / When I am through, I’ll be over you / Though, I smile for awhile, I’ll cry the whole night through.”

“It’s got pedal steel, walking bass lines and Trigger sounding solos. If you like sad bastard Honky Tonk, I got you,” he teased of the song on Instagram. “High as Willie” anchors Harrison’s forthcoming album, Still Feelin’ the Payne.
