Here are 7 fresh songs to add to your playlist:
“Love in Real Life” – Lizzo
“Come over here, I need love in real life,” sings Lizzo in the chorus of her new banger. “Love in Real Life” fits snuggly next to her catalog, yet carries some swagger she hasn’t shared with the world. Guitars tremble in the mix, punctuating the jaunty groove of the melody. Drums also join in the production and furthers the song’s free-spirited nature. Lizzo has never sounded so good – and that’s a blessing.
“Sorry I’m Here for Someone Else” – Benson Boone
Benson Boone is the moment. There’s a reason for it too – just take a listen to his latest song. “Sorry I’m Here for Someone Else” is a radiant, neon-soaked club track that finds him running into an ex. As the title suggests, he admits that he’s there for someone else – even though he wishes nothing but good times. “We talk at the bar all by ourselves, but I’m here for someone else,” he sings. As the song progresses, he admits that he’s still in love with them, even noting that they’re who they should have waited for. Well, we’ve all been there.
“Brave Face” – Ryan Nealon
“Am I in a crisis or is that just life?” ponders Ryan Nealon. The pop singer reflects upon the tragedies that have littered his life, yet he marches on with a “Brave Face,” he attests in his new ballad. “What would I look like without a… brave face?” he sings. He holds back tears to get through every day, hiding parts of himself. He then admits he’s not sure he’d wish to be any different. In true Nealon fashion, it’s a real tearjerker anyone could relate to.
“Show Pony” – Mathew V
A classic melody wraps comfortably around Mathew V‘s voice. “Show Pony” is among the singer-songwriter’s best cuts. From both the melody to his vocal finesse, he’s mastered the art of evoking strong emotions. “Don’t let them lose whatever they want from me,” he laments. He pulls frayed strings from his heart, as he endures the push and pull from others. He’s just a show pony, doing things for others and sacrifice his own self worth in the process. It’s a real stunner!
“Five Minutes” – Alexa Cappelli
Alexa Cappelli is trapped in wanting and not wanting an ex. “I’ve been checking my phone every five minutes, counting down to get over you,” she sings over a chewy, bubbly melody. With “Five Minutes,” she makes a bid for one of the year’s most infectious. A typical “let’s mask the lyrical heaviness underneath a happy melody,” the uptempo track operates on all levels: the lyric, the melody, Cappelli’s vocals. It all has the classic feel of a surefire smash hit. Bump it loud and get lost in its magic.
“On the Money” – Bronze Avery
Bronze Avery sure knows how to throw a party. “On the Money” electrifies from the very first note. It sends sparks right into the eardrums, as he seduces and beckons a lover into his sphere. “You know, I’m right on the money this time,” he coos. His voice oscillates from straight vocals to distortion that conjures up the intensity of new-found love. More than anything, the song is primed for gay clubs all over the world – let’s get on it!
“Replay” – Cynthia Erivo
Cynthia Erivo‘s “Replay” is unconventionally layered with a spooky underpinning of whistles and vocals, all intricate and haunting. “And my mind is like a record,” she sings. “I wish I could say all these feelings go away / I’m a constant work in progress / I can’t keep these at bay,” she later admits. Drums accentuate the vocals, all feeling nearly acoustic and totally vocal led. It’s not over you get such a stripped-back pop songs like this, and “Replay” will knock you over.
