“Where do the flowers grow?” sing Darling West. With their new song “Off to the Woods,” the band wax contemplative about life in wistful colors and somber vocal tricks. The replenishment received from the moody, trickling ballad invigorates the soul. It’s like seeking supple water from the babbling brook down in the valley.

“I’m off to the wood / Yeah, here I go,” the duo sings, their voices fluttering as feathers on a crips winter morning. Eyeing the skies, Darling West seeks out freedom from their phones. The always-connected life worms into their brains, provoking an escape into the woodlands. “Off to the Woods” erupts from a chance getaway and the ruminations that came with it.

“Do you ever get an instant urge to put down your phone and escape out in nature? We sure do! (Yet here we are posting on social media),” the band writes on Instagram. “[This song is] about that exact sentiment. So maybe we can use that feeling, and take a break sometimes to get ourselves a fix from the healing presence of trees and birds.”
