Brett Eldredge kicks off the year with “Gorgeous,” a smooth-as-silk ballad declaring his love for another. Co-written with Alexis Idarose Kesselman, the song crescendos into a choir of his voice, layered one top of each other into a gospel-tinged finale. “You’re singing to your favorite coffee cup / Your baby blues say things are looking up,” he coos in the opening verse.
His syrupy tenor has long been missed from country music, but his big, splashy new song should be a welcome, refreshing entry. “Gorgeous” excels in radiating warmth, as his words linger in the air. “You don’t know it, but you’re gorgeous / Speak your mind when you got something to say / You don’t know it, but you’re flawless,” he sings.
It’s been years since Eldredge released new, non-holiday music. But in that time, he started his own label and “wrote some music that made me feel free to embrace all different parts of myself and had an absolute thrill doing it,” he says in a press statement. “This music will blur genre lines and really just give my fans the opportunity to see some sides of me that I’m not even sure I knew I had in me.”
