If you’ve never heard the name “Oliver Anthony” before, you’re about to now, especially once Beyoncé‘s BeyHive gets a hold of him…

Not that he doesn’t deserve it. After all, what else does he have to offer?

Lord have mercy.

Anyway, Oliver Anthony is back in the headlines in the “day late, dollar short” department after he commented on the ex-Destiny’s Child singer’s cover of the Dolly Parton classic, “Jolene” (which was released back in March), calling it “trash” while ranting about the country music scene in 2024.

And AL.com has Anthony’s whole rant in full:

One of the guys I worked with, he wanted me to make some stupid f*cking post about Beyoncé’s country album, about how it was good, even though it was complete trash. It makes me just want to throw up.

It’s just total cringe. It represents how degenerative our society has become, that a song like a Beyoncé version of ‘Jolene’ can come out and anybody actually listen to it and think it’s not just complete f*cking trash.

Don’t hold back, Oliver Anthony — tell us how you really feel.

Now, to be clear, the “Rich Men North of Richmond” singer has the right to feel what he wants about whatever he wants. If he doesn’t like Beyoncé’s music or her cover of “Jolene,” so be it. But to suggest that “country music is crap now” because a Black woman recorded a cover of a song written by a white woman (that got Parton’s blessing, no less) is a bit…much.

It’s also the most press Oliver Anthony has gotten in quite a few months: the last time he got press, it’s because he was whining about “leaving country music” because he wasn’t getting the attention he’d hoped.

Well…here’s hoping he gets that now, though not in the way he’d hoped…
