Cameron Hawthorn continues his trek through the pop cosmos with his latest song. Ever the genre-bender, the cowboy decorates “Only Love” with a smattering of country dust encased in dazzling synths and echoing vocals. Production ticks by like a horse galloping onto the horizon, but when the beat drops, Hawthorn grabs your hand and yanks you onto the dance floor. That dichotomy lies at the song’s heart, pulsing in time with his haunted voice.
“Baby, don’t forget the good times,” he sings. “We can make it / Let’s get back to the basics / You and me tonight.” His voice scatters like stardust through the universe, the emotion radiating from a deep core. He pleads for another chance and claims that “only love” will come between him and his lover. A jungle of instruments, both synthetic and real, sprouts around his feet and leaves him shrouded in a seductive haze.
“Only Love” samples a forthcoming album, promised to arrive in early 2025. “It’s been a journey getting to this point, but I’m creating music that gets me buzzing, and I have been feeling the call to do an album for quite some time,” Hawthorn writes on Instagram. “Thank you for all of the love and support thus far. It pumps me up to hear that you’re vibing with the new music, and I can’t wait to share more of the story with you.”
