  1. Drink a Beer” has taken TikTok by storm. Can you walk us through the moment you realized it was going viral and how it felt? It’s funny because I’ve had a few TikToks go viral before, but they were mostly goofy stuff that showed off my sense of humor. This was the first time something that combined my sense of humor and tied to my music career really blew up. When the first TikTok hit 1.2 million views in 24 hours, I was like, ‘Okay, that’s wild!’ But then I posted a follow-up with the real lyrics, and it did even better. That’s when it hit me—people weren’t just laughing; they were connecting with the song. It felt surreal, like, ‘Wait, are we actually doing this?
  2. What inspired the playful twist on country music conventions in “Drink a Beer,” and how did the concept for the song come about? It honestly started as a songwriting exercise. I love coming up with ideas that are fun and a little tongue-in-cheek, so I just hit record and started ad-libbing like I’ve done in a bunch of my other pop-country videos. I’ve always enjoyed making these ad-libbed pop-country videos as a way to stretch my creativity and have a little fun with the patterns and tropes you often hear in the genre. People really vibed with it. I didn’t overthink it; I was just having fun and leaning into that playful side.
  3. Millions of fans demanded to hear the full version of the song. Did their enthusiasm influence your decision to release it, and how did you approach the final production? Absolutely—the energy from the fans was definitely a big motivator. I knew I wanted to get it out there, but turning a TikTok idea into a full song took some time. For production, I wanted to stay true to the acoustic-driven vibe that made the original TikTok resonate with so many people, while giving it a bigger, fuller sound. I worked with my longtime producer, Taylor Kimball, who’s incredible and he really brought that vision to life. We also have an acoustic version coming soon, which strips it back to its roots. It’s been exciting to see it all come together.
  4. You’ve spent years building a dedicated fanbase. How has your experience as a seasoned artist shaped the way you interact with your fans on platforms like TikTok? My fans are the best part of this. They’ve been with me through it all, so I try to bring that same personal connection to social media. I love meeting fans at shows, hanging out at the merch table, and just chatting. I want my online presence to feel real. TikTok’s great because it lets me connect with fans in real time just like we’re talking face-to-face.
  5. “Drink a Beer” has a lighthearted feel, but your music often blends playfulness with depth. How do you balance those two elements in your work? I try not to take anything too seriously—except for the silly ideas. Those, I take very seriously! Really though, it’s all about what I’m feeling at the moment, and I don’t try to force anything to fit a certain balance.
  6. How has TikTok and its viral nature impacted your music career, and do you see it as a central part of your artistic journey moving forward? It’s such a creative space, and I enjoy being able to share both funny moments and my music. At the end of the day, I just love connecting with people, whether it’s through a song or making them laugh. TikTok has made it easy to experiment and see what clicks, and I get instant feedback from fans, which helps me understand what they’re enjoying the most.
  7. Your journey as a musician didn’t start with this viral hit. Can you share more about your early days in music and how those experiences shaped the artist you are today? Both my parents have been playing music in the church my whole life, so I grew up surrounded by it. I started taking music seriously around seven years ago – playing all over Texas—bars, restaurants, country clubs and clocking in around 250 shows a year. It was during those bar gigs that I got to know my audience in a way that shaped me as an artist. The requests people would make for their favorite songs helped me understand (as a songwriter) what makes certain music so beloved and why those songs become hits. Those experiences inspired my recent EP Y’all Take Requests?, which is a collection of covers. It’s my way of paying homage to those early days of performing and the impact they had on my songwriting. All that time on the road also opened doors for me to open for incredible artists like Parker McCollum, Flatland Cavalry, Charley Crockett, Treaty Oak Revival, and Kameron Marlowe. Early on, artists like these took a chance on me, giving me opportunities to perform in front of thousands of people. Those experiences taught me how to put on a show with original music and connect with fans in a real, meaningful way.
  8. Country music often thrives on storytelling. How do you approach storytelling in your songs, and what do you hope listeners take away from “Drink a Beer”? Storytelling is everything to me when it comes to songwriting. I love spending the time to get a line juuust right to convey whatever moment/emotion I’m trying to. On the flip side, you can’t control how someone interprets a song, and that’s a beautiful thing. In terms of Drink A Beer, it naturally turned into a “let’s get over a heartbreak” song, while remaining very upbeat and fun. Despite the breakup element of the lyrics, it’s a very upbeat track, and I simply want people to have a damn good time listening to this song. And for those that are aware of the origins of the song, I want for it to be a reminder to not take ourselves so seriously. Because that often leads to something awesome.
  9. What challenges did you face turning a viral TikTok snippet into a fully realized track, and how did you overcome them? The biggest challenge was the pressure to move fast—there were definitely a lot of comments telling me to release the song yesterday. We got into the studio as quickly as we could, but some people don’t realize how much goes into turning a viral snippet into a fully finished track. I didn’t want to rush it just to ride the wave; the song deserved more than that. I’m grateful to my producer, Taylor Kimball, and my entire team for jumping in and working hard to make it happen. We stayed true to the vibe of the original TikTok while giving it a bigger, fuller sound. It’s not easy to balance the momentum of a viral moment with the care it takes to make something great, but I think we found that balance.
  10. What’s next for you after the release of “Drink a Beer”? Are there other songs or projects in the works that your fans should look forward to? First up is the acoustic version of ‘Drink a Beer,’ which will be dropping in the next couple of weeks. I’m really excited for everyone to hear it because it brings the song back to its roots. Beyond that, I’ve been teasing a few new songs on social media, and I’m deep into writing mode, working with some amazing writers. There’s a lot more on the way, and I can’t wait for fans to hear what’s next!
