Real connections spark ecstasy in life. Yola sings as much with her new song. “Symphony” sees the juggernaut blending funkadelic pop and soul, a perfect fit for her larger-than-life vocals. “I’ll put you on to this body of mine,” she entices in the opening verse, wrapping the listener in honey.
Much like a siren, she pulls you further into her web. “Oh, how you make me sing / Oh, the revelation that you bring,” she beckons. “There ain’t nothing better than this / Just being in the warmth of your embrace.” In these intimate moments, doused in piano and delicious rhythm, Yola continues proving her star power. She’s harnessed the art of songwriting for a lyrical escape.
A co-writer and co-producer on the song, Yola explains the songs into of “exploring the element of surprise in this song, talking about when you’ve suddenly found someone that is not a f***boy, someone that is not a waste of skin, and actually really dope,” she says in a press statement. “And you instantly feel ready to have both a deeper conversation and sexual connection.”
“After experiencing dating app nightmares in these streets, there is a sense of surprise and profound shock when you meet someone that is a functioning human being, let alone the love of your life, especially in the context of this barrage of nightmares,” she adds.
“Symphony” anchors Yol’s forthcoming My Way EP, slated for a January 17 release.
