But the supposed love was doomed from the start. “I settled like there were no options / You know, I don’t wanna do love like that / Only like you because you like me back,” he adds, before replaying the refrain against a bubbly backdrop. Nealon feels the rush hit his cheeks and reinvigorate him from the inside out.
“Last year, I dated someone who was so not worth my time and energy, and when they dumped me, I felt so unbelievably lame,” writes Nealon on Threads. The singer-songwriter soon teamed up with Jules Brave and producer Jason Wu to pen what Nealon describes as “extremely freeing.”
When you hear it, it’s both cathartic and anthemic. The pain vanishes through a downpour of glowing synths and percussion – and has a beat you could die for.
