One thing you can always expect from Ross Cooper‘s music is the honesty, even if he didn’t write the song. Written by his buddy Tyler Halverson, “I Hate Hotels” is a plaintive confession about why he hates hotels. Cooper slides like a chameleon into the song recorded live at a hotel he actually doesn’t hate, Hotel Turkey in Texas.

“I carve my name in the bedframe just so I can feel like something’s mine / There’s a western movie on the TV, taking back to a simple time,” he reflects. “Wishing I could be Sundance Kid, instead of hiding out in this damn Days Inn.” Cooper’s voice softly blends the classic and modern, with an airy arrangement that goes against the lonesomeness of the lyrics.

Unlike many songs we’ve featured on Charted, “I Hate Hotels” certainly speaks for itself. Cooper lists off all the reasons he hates hotels, with very little subtext. Sometimes, that’s all you need.
